What happens if I don't pay my gym (Fitness First)?
I am from Melbourne, Australia. Just curious, what happens if I don't pay my gym (12 months worth) which is about $600. The gym chain is Fitness first, will they get debt collectors to take me to court???

- They'll get debt collectors to come and make a nuisance of themselves and make your life a misery. If you don't give in to that treatment, then they'll take you to court.
- they'll probably send you letters saying that they'll report you to a credit beuraeu agency (please excuse the spelling lol) and then after the 4 or 5th letter say that if you send the money immediately you'll be clear. oh. and they probably won't want you back at that gym anymore.....buy some workout videos instead heehe
- You need to call and set up a payment plan....they can report you to a creditor and if you don't pay for long enough take you to court. Think about it...do you want to pay higher interest rates 5 years from now because you showed you don't make good on contractual obligations? You will end up paying one way or another....court/higher rates on things (and complete denied access to others) later in life.
- if you have signed a 12months contract and have been turning up to the gym for the whole 12months then it is considered stealing because they are such a huge corporation .. they have the money to use you as an example and will take further action you could try to get away with it by moving house and closing your bank account (the one you set up the standing order to pay them).. that way they cant trace you and therefore you could get away with it if they trace you they will get the bailiffs involved, a court order.. which can get you a criminal record .. which will ruin your credit ratings if you end up going back to Oz then they would have to say good bye to that money you owe the good luck! :p
- get a doc note to say u shud not exercise due to bad back or sumthn so they do not terririse u with letters to say u need to pay as im sure u signed a contract an thus must cough up the years membership. gudluk x
- My experience of paying for gym membership is that you pay the whole years payment as one lump sum in advance for 12 months membership, getting a discount for doing it this way. Or you have to set up a direct debit, paying a set amount for 12months membership, and you are locked into a 12 month contract. So you are paying in advance or monthly as you are using it. You dont have to renew the contract at the end of the 12months if you dont want to. So im not sure how you can owe them for a years membership. They would have refused to let you enter the gym if your money hadnt been paid.
