Need recommendations for fitness equipment: yoga, pilates, stretching? I want to install a small home gym in a 9.5 x 11.5 room (8' ceiling) on my second floor. The purpose of this is two-fold: I need to lose weight, and I need to regain strength and flexibility. I was thinking of installing a ballet bar or parallel bars and buying a new or used Total Gym (for pilates). What do you all think? Anyone have experience with Total Gym? Any recommendations on an alternative piece of equipment?

How do I know which Pilates workout is right for me? I'm looking for a Pilates workout video, but there are SO many options! How do I know what's right for me? Here are my details: - 5'7" female, 180 lbs - Want to tone and strengthen, but also lose weight - Definite Pilates beginner, but I want advanced options too - Don't own any Pilates equipment; willing to purchase hand weights but not a mat at this time I'm looking for a DVD with different expertise levels, as well as fat-burning options. I appreciate any suggestions!
What are the typical markups for fitness equipment? I am looking to sell yoga and pilates fitness equipment and would like to know if anyone knows the markup on these items (mats, stability balls, soft weights, pilates rings etc) and also where a good distributor is for these products?
pilates - mat vs. equipment? Hey...I plan on studying Pilates this summer and I have done mat classes in the past which I enjoyed but people tell me I should use the equipment instead...will i still see the same results as the mat? what are the pros and cons?
Why are people still buying Gratz pilates equipment/apparatus? ? We all know that the quality has gone down hill and certain organizations have even gone to forcing their instructors to buy from them in order to stay in good graces. But is it worth it? I have several of their reformers next to some models not made by Gratz, and it’s obvious to tell with ones are inferior. Gratz stuff is just not worth the money any more and a simple search on Google will tell you that. So why do people keep doing it? Do we really need to belong to that specific group that we’re willing to sacrifice quality, performance, and our clients’ well-being just? Am I alone on this?
Gym Pilates/Yoga (and needed Equipment)? What should you bring with if you are going to take a gym class (pilates and/or yoga). Do they have stuff there? I don't want to show up unprepared.

What's a good, simple, pilates routine that's easily accessible at home? I want to start pilates, but have no time to buy the necessary equipment most routines come with...much less take classes. What's a simple routine that I could do on just my living room floor?
What's the best yoga and pilates at home video for beginners? I want to get started doing some yoga and pilates in my home and I would like to know your opinion on what videos are the best for beginners. I would like videos that are more focused on muscle toning and shaping rather than weight loss as I am 5'8" and only 110 lbs so no need to lose any more weight!! Also, what equipment do I need besides the mat?
Can I skip weight training and do Pilates instead? I'm 20, 5'2", 115lbs, 22% body fat. I'm planning on doing 40mins elliptical training and 20mins of jump-roping 5 times a week. My goal is to reach 17% body fat. I was planning on doing an hour of weight training 4 days a week (just for toning up) but I kinda got discouraged 'coz there aren't many home workouts and I really don't have the budget for more equipment. (I have 2lbs dumbells) I was thinking of skipping weight training altogether and replacing it with an hour of Pilates. What "look" will that achieve? Will it be different than when I'm weight training? And will that affect my metabolism? Note: I don't really wanna build muscles. Just wanna firm up. P.S. Or can you guys refer me to a good (cheap) home workout website? I've basically gone to most of them. Thanks!
What are some good pilates & yoga equpiment that work? I'm looking to start doing pilates and/or yoga and I just want things I can do from my own house. Does anyone know some equipment that is at a reasonable price and works?
How do you know what is the best type of fitness equipment and the best place to buy it from? I like the bowflex commercials and so forth for example. Plus the pilates gym stuff looks good and then the treadmill or cycles look good. I see them for sale everywhere! Qvc has some of the same products as advertised on the products own webpage for example. So where is the best place or store to buy equipment from? I see many at Wal-Mart, Sears, online... everywhere. I want one for strength training/toning and one for cardio. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want to invest in something that will last and give me good results.
Would you buy exercise equipment online or at a brick-and-mortor store? If you use pilates, yoga or other equipment with a trainer or at a gym would you be more likely to purchase those items online or at a walk in store? Why? Also, which items?
Is the ab rocket / or similar type equipment the best way to get a flat firm stomach ? I know diet and excercise including crunches and pilates are good but they are hard on the back to do alot the pressure etc. Please let me know the best equipment and or excercise diet routine. I am doing a couple of miles of jogging a day and 120 push ups a day to start. The ab rocket was 90 dollars canadian.
Mat vs. Reformer Pilates? I was wondering how essential the reformer and other equipment is in pilates. I have decided to start pilates because I suffer from lower back pain and wanted to strenghten my abs and other muscles to help. Also, I am interested in toning my muscles. I took my first class last week at a pilates studio that offers classes for 3 people at a time at $25 a class. The studio had the reformer, the allegro tower, and some other equipment I don't know about yet. However, my gym also offers pilates classes which are free with membership. My gym does not have the reformer, and the pilates offered is strictly mat pilates. I was wondering if anyone had any opinion as to the importance of the reformer or other pilates equipment. If I will get better results for my back pain using the equipment it might be worth the cost, but I don't want to have to spend extra if the pilates method can be experienced without the equipment.
Is it possible that Pontius Pilate invented Pilates...? ...and the crucifixion of Christ was just a failed attempt to try out one of his new pieces of Pilates equipment?

Does anyone know of a place on the GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA that works with the PILATES REFORMER MACHINE? I have found a bunch of places on the Gold Coast that do mat pilates or pilates with some floor equipment but I am interested in the actual reformer machine. Like this: http://www.stott-pilates.co.uk/IMAGES/MISC/jane_reformer.jpg I see there is a training place in Brisbane that studies Stott pilates but hoping there is something closer to me on the Gold Coast! Any info is greatly appreciated! :)
When is it ok to edit a Wikipedia page? On the Wikipedia page for Pilates the word "equipment" is used incorrectly throughout the article. The correct word is "apparatus" and the article should be changed to reflect that. I've never really edited something that major on a page and, although I know how, I'm not sure if it is ok to do so. I posted a the issue in the discussion section of the page, but no one has responded. So what is the usual protocol for editing things such as that?
What are the best exercise videos out there that are preferably quick, fun, and really work.? I am I'd say pretty in shape I would like to get a little more hard exercise in. pilates power gym good or bad? Hey, I go to the gym a lot but have recently grown bored with all my local gym has to offer. And the next few months I’m going to be really busy, which will make it difficult to commit to going to the gym for two hours. I want to purchase something for home that will have a lot of weight resistance, and be able to target most if not all of my body. This home gym seems to fall in my price range, and I like that I can still do all the moves I would of done at gym on it as well as addition pilates moves. The web site is here: http://www.thane.ca/products/fitness/pilatespowergym/pilatespowergym.php?gclid=CPPpudPYw4wCFRrnPgodsiUvbA Please check it out and tell me what you think? Of if you have used it if it worked for you? I really do want to get a good work out at home. If you have any other home equipment suggestions let me know.
How do I motivate my wife to lead a more active lifestyle ? She tells me she wants to get in better physical shape, and I buy her all of the equipment she needs, the running shoes, the outfits, the pilates mat and ball, the videotapes, the baby jogger, the iPod, but she never does anything. Am I being manipulated, or is there something else I can do to get her motivated without getting angry? Serious answers only. Thank You.
How do I tone up my thighs and get flatter stomach? Ok, here is the deal, I read lots and lots on exercises but I have one problem that noone seems to know the answer to. By the way, I have knee problems so cant run to burn calories/fat.
What is the best exercise for maintaining suppleness and keeping weight in check? My gym has closed and there isn't another one near me for miles. I'm not a keepfit fanatic, but I know I'll quickly turn to blubber if I don't do something. Pilates? At Home Cardio? I am 16, about 5'9 or 10' and have been growing ever closer to 180 pounds. I feel terrible about myself considering I was about 155 one year ago. Will running help?
Where can I find Privately Owned fitness studios? I am a student from Chicago writing a paper on a visit to a studio I aspire to work in. I plan on owning my own fitness studio or gym, and I am looking for privately owned fitness studios that offer yoga, pilates, strength training and cardio equipment. Does anyone know any off hand or can they refer me to a website that will help me?
What is the most efficient way to begin practicing Pilates? Recently, I've taken up an interest in Pilates. I love that it not only provides a workout, but also that its therapeutic and stresses the importance of focusing, breathing techniques and circulation. The only other exercise that provided those things and got me in the best shape of my life was when I was a swimmer in high school and when I swam in the military (I don't have the feet for running). However, I don't have a pool now and the health club pools are expensive and seasonal. Anyway, back to pilates. My fiance is not comfortable with the price of pilates studios or with the price of the equipment. I don't feel comfortable with simply getting a video because this is all new to me and I want to take it seriously and be properly trained. Does the less expensive equipment (such as the chairs and barrels) provide similar benefits as the reformer, trapeze and "cadillac"? Can someone get the same benefits without any equipment? Are the videos just as good? I need some educated direction :) Thank you!

I know there is: Walking Running/Jogging Dancing Swimming Lifting Weights Jumprope Biking Sports Pilates/Yoga Other types of aerobics But what are some others? I babysit my nephew all day, i don't have a car to go anywhere, I don't have a gym membership or any exercise equipment, so what are some things i can do that i won't absolutley hate? Ahhh i need help, please help.
How long to get my old body back? I am 5'2", normally 108 pds. I have gained 30 pds. w/ my first baby (due any day now). I am curious how long it took other first time moms to get their old jeans back on... I plan on breastfeeding which I know helps. Also, suggestions on ways to get my shape back? I live in a cold climate and am not big on exercise, don't own any equipment, but don't mind pilates, hiking, biking and walking.
Can anyone recommend a good health club/gym in Philadelphia? I am looking for a reasonably-priced health club offering basic gym equipment and weights, as well as locker rooms. I would like to find a location in Center City or South Philly. I would like to find a place also offering classes (pilates, aerobics, yoga, etc.) and/or a swimming pool. I don't need to meet all of these characteristics. Thanks!

what are some good exercises to do at home to help lose weight? I don't have any exercise equipment and I live in an apartment complex. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any exercises that I can do at home to help keep me active besides the obvious. If you have a website that perhaps has like a diagram that shows how to do the exercise that would be great. I have tried yoga and pilates, tae bo, but would like to see if theres anything different I can try and if I can make use of household items to work out with?

Taking pilates classes... what to expect? I've been interested in doing pilates for a while. I bought a video online (it turned out to be a VHS tape.. oops) and the vcr recently ate the tape. So, I think I'd like to try to actually take a class somewhere, so I can have the benefit of an instructor and other people. For those of you who take pilates classes, how much does it cost? If I take a class in some gym, will they make me buy a membership too? What is the typical age range of the people who take pilates? I'm 24... hope I can find a class with others around my age in it. Also, what clothing do people wear? I'd hate to show up looking out of place. Any other equipment I should buy or bring? And, finally, how many times a week is your class? just one? or more? Thanks :D
I want to get into pilates! How do I come about that? Hi! I've been looking around and have finally decided to try pilates! I'm kind of clear about the benefits of it, but all I really want out of it is a healthy body and an inch or two of height gaining- not to mention a better life style of exercising! (Since I don't exercise at all now.) I've been wanting to do it for so long now... But I'm not sure how to set up these things. I have questions about it though before I start! - Does anyone know of any pilates step-by-step things? I want to take things slow and work my way up healthy. - Does anyone have any recommendations for any kind of pilates video? I'm thinking about only doing this at home- I kind of can't hit the gym yet... - When do you do pilates? And what time is the best to do so? - What is the equipment that I need for stretching exercises? - How long do I have to do pilates and for how many days a week? Please give me good answers! =] -Mairy
Windsor Pilates? I need a good pilates workout. I have heard great things about Windsor....but I went to the website and there are about a million different things - equipment, videos, etc...that you can buy. What do I need....really...to achieve weightloss goals? Does anyone recommend another video?
What is the difference between an exercise ball and pilates ball? What is the difference between a stability (pilates) ball and an exercise ball? I am thinking of buying a Swiss Ball (http://www.sissel-online.com/product/abs_exercise_ball.php) or a Stott Stability Ball (http://www.stottpilates.com/equipment/balance.html#Anchor-StabilityBall-23522) I know one says pilates but what is the difference? Are these balls not really the same? Could I not use a pilates ball for different ab exercises etc? Have you bought any great brands of exercise balls that you like? Thanks!
