Most people that go to the gym know that most gym have group fitness classes like pilates, cardio kickboxing, step aerobics, yoga, etc. In order to teach these group fitness classes does one have to pass some sort of exam or certification? And are you certified to teach all the classes or just one type like step aerobics?

I'm looking for a group fitness activity that will improve my cardiovascular conditioning, help me trim fat and teach me self defense, without the formality of karate or judo (where you have to have a uniform and all that)...something fun...any ideas out there?

group fitness instructor certification? I'd like to get a job as a group fitness instructor teaching cardio-based kickboxing classes. Can someone give me details on the pros and cons of different kinds of certifications? I've read a little on the internet, but want some "real-world" and "practical" advice. I'm leaning towards ACE, but there are so many of them out there. At this point, I'm more interested in teaching classes than I am in personal training. Thank you.

Does anyone have an idea for a witty name for my group of coworkers doing a fitness challenge? We all work the night shift (7pm-7am) at an area hospital so any play on the nocturnal thing is good. The challenge is that each group sets a goal for a number of minutes of exercise/activity a day & then tries to meet that challenge everyday over 10 weeks. Hope you can help. I'm no good at thinking up names...... And btw this is sponsored by my place of employment so please no questionable names. Thank you!

Fitness and Karate, then there are walking and running groups that seem super healthy. Also there are outdoor activity groups. Is it just me, or is the diet and fitness group getting clogged with spam? It seems every time I ask a question, someone posts a link to Medifast, Acai berry, or some other ridiculous diet. I always report them, though I know it won't do much good. confused - it just annoys me that half the time when i ask a question, it becomes a platform for some idiot to plug some ridiculous miracle fruit or diet drink or something of that nature. even worse is knowing that some people who are less knowledgeable and more desperate might actually try that worthless stuff

I want to become a group fitness instructor. Do I have to be in super good shape? I’m 5’7’’ and 155lbs. I want to teach fitness classes, but im afraid that people will think im too fat and not come to my classes. I know im not huge, but when there are other teachers who are a size 4 with ripped abs and I feel that I wouldn’t look my part. Come on, no one wants to take the aerobics class from the fat chick. So my question is what should I do? Should I loose a few lbs and then get started, or should I just go for it? I want to hear from some one who has taught or is now teaching these kind of classes. Thanks!

Where can I find fitness statistics? Actually i want to know how many people nationwide do fitness, age groups, gender. Where can i find these statistics, the most accurate possible and not paying $12,500 for that info.
Weight Loss/ Exercise/ fitness Email group - anyone interested? So I answered an alternate question involving the fact that exercise is the enemy and how I'd love to be one of those people who actually enjoy working out... but I'm not... but what I was wondering was if any of my contacts or anyone else, would be interested in joining up and becoming email penpals about working out and keeping each other motivated...? Would that be beneficial to anyone or am I kidding myself? I find it amusing that I received answers saying "Count me in" but (a) didn't contact me directly and (b) don't allow email or other type of contact outside of Y!A... If you are really all that interested in more than the 2 points, I'm going to re-dedicate my 360 page to weight loss and fitness. Contact me if interested in forming an email group.
Group classes at Goodlife fitness? k, so I just joined, but I'm confused about something. Do I have to pay to attend the classes in adition to my membership fee? Becuase their website says a 5 class pass is $20. But when I signed the contract no one tried to sell me any add-ons. So is that 5classes/$20 thing for non-memners just to see how they like it? or does it cost me extra too?
What are some good health and fitness related prize ideas? I'm starting a point-based fitness club at my school and need some good health and fitness related prize ideas for both individuals and groups of about five people. It would be very helpful if the prizes were cheap and gender neutral.
What should I do for bicep pain lasting more than six months? A muscle in my left arm has been sore for more than six months. It's the muscle I use to lift the upper part of my arm (I think that would be the bicep). I'm especially aware of the pain when working out (I go to group fitness classes) and I wonder whether I ought to be working that arm less or more or not at all.
What are good excersises for each muscle group? I recently joined 24 hour fitness and I want to know more exercises I can do for each muscle group that I can alternate everytime I work on it. I recently joined 24 hour fitness and have been following a pretty decent diet. I see results, but I want to know more exercises for each muscle group. I usually work on chest and back, shoulders and delts, bi's and tri's, abs, and legs.
Is it good or bad to burn out a muscle group at the end of a workout? For example instead of just finishing biceps with a set of 8 reps with your normal weight, is it more beneficial to curl that weight until muscle failure, drop 5 pounds and immediately curl until muscle failure again, and continue dropping weight until its at 0 and your arms are ready to fall off? Ive heard its a great way to get the most from that muscle group, but ive also heard that its overworking the muscles. Any fitness guru's got some advice on this?
How to increased muscle mass and CV fitness? Right, I am 14 years old and I am quite fit and I am toned all over. I wanted to increase the size of my muscles - mainly biceps, triceps, abs and pecks (I think that is what they are called :p) I eat very healthly (I always have, not just lately because of the goverment etc) and I have a high metabolism - I have been told it runs in the family. I also would like to increase my CV fitness so what type of running should I do, for how long, how fast etc. I would also like excises working the areas mentioned above with: How to do exercise? How many reps? How long should I rest for? Any warm up and down tips? I do not have any access to a gym only weights and the usual stuff that is lying round the house. I am also wondering if any knows of any protein snacks and stuff I can eat and are the supplements safe for my age group? I always have atleast 2 glasses of milk a day - a kinda habit since I was young. Thanks for all the help =D
Is paying to get certified in Zumba worth it? I'm considering attending one of the Zumba certification workshops (would like to make a little extra income). I am not currently certified in any group fitness/aerobics...but I take the classes 2-3 times per week, worked as a manager at a gym, and have been a dancer all my life. The certification classes are a little pricey, and I would have to travel about 3-4 hours to them. Do you think it's worth it?

How soon would a fitness instructor look pregnant? Hi, I'm a group fitness instructor and I'm about 3 months pregnant with my first baby. I'd say that during my career and pasttime of exercising, I've worked up some abdominals. Will this have any effect on how soon I start to show? Right now, it looks like maybe I've just put ona little bit in the belly area. it's not noticeable at all when I wear a slightly baggy shirt, and when I wear a tighter shirt you'd have to look really closely to tell. So basically none of my students suspect a thing. Any ideas?
What do you think of 24 hr fitness? Ok, so I am thinking of joining the 24 hr fitness here because it is open all the time and has a basketball court. My school gym seems like it is closed half the time, and is shut down by 9 pm, and I usually work till 11 pm. Anyway, the one here is a 24 hr sport and has Basketball Court , Coin Collect Lockers , Group Cycling , Group X , Kids' Club , Pool , Pro Shop , Sauna , Se habla espanol , Solutions , Steam Room , Volleyball , Whirlpool. Most of that I wont even use, just want the basketball court and the weights. So, I was wondering if 24 hr fitness is a good gym and if it would be worth the $40 a month and the $100 start up fee.
Who would you say gives the best and most detailed answers in Diet and Fitness? And I'm not looking for anyone to say me either.Include a link if you want to but definitely defend your answer.I already know who gets my vote but I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks.By best and most detailed I don't mean this group of copy and pasters recommending that same stupid blogspot for EVERY single answer.I mean people who give alot of good details and may include links.Don't say yourself either. I meant who in Yahoo! answers!I have plenty of sites to do this.I'm looking for opinions on which users.Or did I not make that clear? Yums thinks it's funny to copy and paste the same link then delete the answer after submitting it. Who would you say gives the best and most detailed answers in Diet and Fitness? Here's the answer that yums gave: read more tips on weight loss and exercise programs on this site How doesn't everyone know that I'M ASKING YOUR OPINION AS TO WHO IN YAHOO! ANSWERS THIS IS WHY I RARELY ASK QUESTIONS ON THIS SITE>WHO"S THE USER?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is truly incredible that noone can see what I'm asking.Have you gotten good answers from someone in Yahoo! answers in diet and fitness? Then give their user name. This question's about to be deleted if this keeps up.
